"English as a Second Language: Excursions into America"

The purpose of this project is to plan and implement an educational excursion program for the institution's student population who use English as a Second Language (ESL).  Proposed excursions may include a trip to the mall to purchase clothing, ordering a meal at a local restaurant, making purchases at the grocery store, etc.  While some of the excursions may seem superficial in nature, we must remember that to a student who is unfamiliar with American culture, something as simple as a trip to Wal-Mart can be an overwhelming experience.  The excursions will address a fundamental need for students to integrate into and function effectively within American society, while maintaining their own interpretations and identities.
